SACRAMENTAL MINISTRY AND RITES OF THE CHURCH

  • Infant and adult baptisms occur throughout the year.
  • First Communion classes meet each year, preceding Maundy Thursday, generally for those 10 years old and/or those in fifth grade.
  • A two-year Confirmation program for seventh and eighth graders, classes parallel the school year.
  • Weddings are scheduled as the church calendar allows.
  • Opportunities for prayers and anointing for healing are available, and individual confession may be made.
  • At the time of a loved one's death, Pastor Art should be contacted immediately. North Community is available for funeral services.

MISSION AND OUTREACH:

We are committed to the ministries of the larger giving back to the church, including the Southern Ohio Synod, Faith Mission, Lutheran Social Services, and Lutheran Village of Columbus.
North Community members distribute information in the community for special events such as holiday worship schedules, Lent and Vacation Bible school. We are committed to "visiting our visitors" within forty-eight hours after their visit with us in worship. During that visit we share information about North Community Lutheran and a word of welcome.

SUPPORT GROUPS:

As needed, groups for church members include Grief Support and Cancer and Chronic Illiness Support. Please contact Vicki Cromley for more information.

VOLUNTEERS:

This is the backbone of the congregation. There is a Spiritual Gifts survey that can orient each person to a variety of ministries at North Community. Office volunteers are especially welcome during the day. In addition, there are work days and other "one-time" opportunities to help. Your phone call to us at 888-1955 can put you in touch with the proper folks.

ASSISTING IN WORSHIP:

It takes a variety of folks to plan and lead worship services that give glory to God in meaningful ways for those worshiping. You are encouraged to participate in any of the following volunteer positions...usher, greeter, Altar Guild member, assistant minister (reads, chants, prays), lector (reads lessons), communion assistant, acolyte, puppeteer, coffee/snacks for our fellowship hour.

YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES:

Our Thursday Gathering is held on the first Thursday of each month during the school year. The evening activities begin at 6:00 pm with a light supper. Following supper there are numerous activities available for all ages. Our choirs reherse on Thursday evenings, there are special activities planned for children of all ages, and an Adult Bible Study is held.
Luther League is for confirmed young people (eighth grade) in Middle School and High School. This organization focuses on serving ministries and social activities.
Non-confirmed Middle School age youth have servant and social activities scheduled though the confirmation program (see Education).

FELLOWSHIP AND ATHLETIC GROUPS:

Currently North Community partipates in an area church Volleyball league on Sunday afternoons from January - March.
Two adult groups meet for fellowship: The Friendship Group includes adults over age 50, and meets on the third Wednesday of each month, in the afternoon during the winter and early evening in the summer. Also, a Men's Breakfast is held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 a.m. with a hearty meal and devotions. We also have Women's Circles.
